Hunt students win Presidential AI state championship

COLUMBUS, Miss. (CMSD) – Hunt Intermediate School has won the Presidential AI Challenge 2026 State Championship.

This challenge is where students, educators, mentors, and community teams recognize a problem in their community that can be solved using AI-powered Solutions.

They also use new skills to solve problems and let their imagination create new technology.

IntelliGuard: AVD Watchout is the name of the project that sixth-grade students Genesis Hill, Ryleigh Kyles, Landon Spraggin, and Tyzir Turner created. It was the state-championship-winning project. Teacher Johnathan Green and Hunt Intermediate Principal Monte Ewing-Johnson supervised three teams that participated in the challenge.

"Student scholars don’t just compete, they create, innovate, and rise to solve real-world problems. Winning the Presidential AI Challenge is not just a victory; it’s proof that young minds, when empowered, can lead the future of intelligence, equity, and change. Opportunity and access will always be the motivation for real student experiences at Hunt Intermediate," said Ewing-Johnson

Regional winners will be announced later this month.

National champions will be awarded in June.
