Columbus, Miss. – A Columbus High School graduate and former player will come home to lead the Falcon Football program.
The Columbus Municipal School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved to hire Coach Benjamin “Chris” Morgan.
With 13 years of coaching experience, Morgan has three former players currently in the NFL and three others that have entered or are eligible for the 2026 NFL Draft.
Morgan graduated from Columbus High School in 2009. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sports coaching from the University of Southern Mississippi and a masters in Sports Administration from Arkansas State University.
He has coached and taught at Woodlawn of Baton Rouge High School, East St. John High School, and St. Helena College and Career Academy. At St. Helena Morgan was also the head boys’ basketball coach, along with the school’s track teams.
In his three seasons as defensive coordinator at Woodlawn of Baton Rouge, Morgan saw 13 players sign or receive preferred walk-on opportunities for collegiate football.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Morgan back home to Columbus and Columbus High School to lead our football program. As a former Falcon who once played on Falcon Field, he understands the tradition, pride, and expectations that come with this role. More importantly, he recognizes the responsibility of developing student-athletes not only on the field, but also in the classroom and in our community. We look forward to his leadership as he guides our program forward.” Columbus Municipal School District Superintendent Craig Chapman said.
“My goal is to restore Falcon pride in the football program in the community, in the school, and in the players. I appreciate this chance and the help I already have. With God’s grace and mercy, none of this is possible. Together, let’s create a top-tier football program. My goal is to build champions on the football field, in the community, and in the classroom,” said Morgan.
He is a member of Stephen Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Morgan is expected to start at Columbus High later this month.
