Ke Yunte Jones

COLUMBUS, Miss. (CMSD) - The Columbus Municipal School District has multiple ways to keep parents connected to their child’s school.

One of those connections is Parent Liaison Ke ‘Yunte Jones.

Jones speaks with parents to discuss a variety of issues. They can talk about grades or absenteeism; she can also help get answers about transportation or testing.

“I want to make sure the parents and the students know they are heard and seen. We, as a district and at their school, care for them. We want them to succeed. I’m the bridge that helps build strategies for academic success. I believe kids will try their best when they know a village of people are cheering them on,” said Jones.

Most recently, Jones has been working with parents to make sure their kids are at school on time because there are truancy laws in Mississippi.

CMSD Spring Intersession will be March 9-13. Jones is also working to ensure students and parents understand the importance of attending intersession

“We want to make sure all students receive the instruction they need and how they need it. Intersession is a great time to have one-on-one learning. The students also have fun. Later this semester we will also offer high-dose tutoring in some of our elementary classes,” said CMSD Superintendent Craig Chapman.

In her parent liaison role, Jones uses various methods to network with parents, either through email, calling, or texting.

“We want to make it easy for parents to connect with the school, the principal, or myself. The quicker we can connect, the faster we can address any concerns the parent may have. I try to meet them where they are, to help them understand how we can help their child,” explained Jones.
