COLUMBUS, Miss. (CMSD) – Three Hunt Intermediate students are showing of their math star power.
Omari Brooks, Kelani Jernigan, and Noah Congious won the Math Superstars competition recently hosted by the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science.
The 5th and 6th grade “Champion Scholars” won for their age group.
MSMS’s Mu Alpha Theta mathematics honor society hosts the event each year.
More than 100 first through fifth graders visit the MSMS campus to compete.
Classroom-based math competitions are held for participating schools. Students that score the highest among their classmates are invited to the event.
“We are incredibly excited for these students. It is wonderful to see their hard work payoff. It is a great example of academic success happening at Hunt,” said Hunt Intermediate School Principal Monte Ewing-Johnson.
“These "Math Superstars" are a great example of the “student-driven; excellence driven” education provided in the Columbus Municipal School District. Exciting things are happening in our classrooms. Our teachers and principals are working hard to ensure each child receives an award-winning education. Congratulations to these students!” said Interim CMSD Superintendent Craig Chapman.
