COLUMBUS, Miss. (CMSD) – Community partnerships are helping Columbus Municipal School District students succeed inside and outside the classroom.

Seasons of Success (S.O.S.) offers academic lessons and physical education, along with social and emotional learning lessons for K-6 aged students.

Reading and math intervention and remediation is the primary focus for the after-school program on the Columbus Housing Authority’s Seasons of Columbus campus.

The youth program is designed for children living in Columbus Housing Authority units. Extra spots are opened to Columbus residents.

“Having partnerships, such as the one with Seasons of Success, is vital to the continued growth of our students’ achievement in the classroom. These partnerships are also crucial to the growth of Columbus. A successful school district helps communities become stronger,” said Interim Columbus Municipal School District Superintendent Craig Chapman.

S.O.S. works with schools to help identify kids that might be eligible for the program. Applications for admission are then sent home with the student. Not all who apply are accepted.

“Dr. Jackie Stennis has a wonderful program to help students after-school, with mostly retired educators that have classroom experience in our district,” said Chapman.

Seasons of Success is funded through grants, and can accept up to 100 students per year.

S.O.S. also offers lessons during summer break.
