COLUMBUS, Miss. (CMSD) - Learning never ends for educators. Taking this lesson, the Columbus Municipal School District is providing the Columbus Promise New Teacher Mentor Program.

Seasoned educators are being paired with new teachers.

This will allow first-year teachers to talk about their experiences, get support for classroom instruction, and learn more about the curriculum.

“We know the first year is critical for teachers. So, we want to make sure they have the support and know their work in the classroom is valued,” said CMSD Human Resources Director Dr. Mario Miller.

There are 43 first-year teachers in the district for the 2025-26 school year.

Miller is also encouraging others to actively recruit other people to the field of education, by encouraging employees within the district to become a teacher. There are some vacant teaching positions in the district. If you would like to apply go to www.columbuscityschools.org

The mentors and mentees in the Columbus Promise New Teacher Mentor Program will continue to meet throughout the school year.
