COLUMBUS, Miss. (CMSD Press Release) - Adventures to Disney World, New York City, and Atlanta are just a few stories Interim Columbus Municipal School District Superintendent Craig Chapman heard from students at Cook Elementary School.

Those trips are just one way Chapman is connecting with students during the “Superintendent’s Student Council” sessions he is hosting at schools in the district.

The goal is to hear directly from students about what they like about their school, what they want changed, and what they would like to see added.

Cook Elementary offers incentives for test scores and attendance, which ranks high on their list of positives.

The fourth graders at Cook Elementary talked about meals and new academic courses.

“It’s important to hear from these students, to hear their wants and needs. The Columbus Municipal School District will provide everything we can to help make learning fun, interactive, and engaging,” said Chapman.

Students also heard updates on construction projects at their school, such as updated bathrooms and an ongoing update to the auditorium. Money from the recently passed bond issue is making those improvements possible.

More Superintendent Student Council sessions will be held at other schools. The meetings will become a once-a-month time to talk and listen with students for Chapman, along with other administrators in the district.
