COLUMBUS, Miss. (CMSD) – Dr. Marlon Andrews knows the Columbus Municipal School District as well as anyone who has ever been appointed Assistant Superintendent for Operations.
The Columbus Municipal School District Board of Trustees approved Andrews' move to the Brandon Central Services Center in April.
He has been the principal of Columbus High School since 2023 and graduated from the school 20 years earlier in 2003.
“It is both an honor and a profound responsibility to serve as Assistant Superintendent in the same district that helped shape my academic foundation, character, and commitment to education. As a graduate of this district, I have personally experienced the impact that dedicated educators, strong leadership, and a supportive community can have on a student’s success. Returning in a leadership capacity allows me to give back to the schools that invested in me and to help create the same opportunities for future generations of students,” said Andrews.
Andrews received his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. He earned a master’s in teaching and an educational specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Mississippi State, and a Doctor of Education from William Carey University (2022).
The Columbus native has worked in school districts in Lowndes County, Jackson, Mississippi, and Pickens County, Alabama. His first job in school district administration came as the Assistant Principal at Hattiesburg High School.
Andrews later returned to CMSD as the Assistant Principal at Columbus Middle School, McKellar Technology Center Director, and then CHS Principal.
His connection with students and staff is unmistakable; that’s one reason Andrews is excited about the future of CMSD.
“By combining my personal connection to the district with a forward-thinking vision for student achievement, I aim to contribute to continued growth, success, and pride throughout our school community,” said Andrews.
Andrews officially begins his Assistant Superintendent role on July 1st.
