Union Academy Elementary School has a long history of serving the children of Columbus. Union was established in 1878 as a partner school to Franklin Academy. Union Academy has been the leader in the Columbus Municipal School District for many programs. Fact: Union is the first school in the Columbus School District to establish a Pre-K program and has successfully maintained this program for the last 6 years. This program was transferred to another school in August 2005.
Fact: Union is the first elementary school in the Columbus School District to establish an Accelerated Reading Program. Fact: Union is the first school in the Columbus School District to provide needed funds to educate low income children by becoming a school wide Title School. Union once again has become the leader in programs to benefit the children of Columbus. Last year Union has established a Homework Assistance- Program.
