Transition is important for students with disabilities to succeed in school. Whether it is from grade to grade, from early childhood programs to elementary school, elementary to middle school, middle to high school, or high school to college or employment, the special education team is ready to support our students.
When should we start planning for transition?
Discussing transition from school to career and college can begin any time during the student’s education. When your child is 14 years of age (12 years of age for students with Autism), Columbus Municipal School District begins to formally address transition in the IEP process.
Transition is a process of a coordinated set of activities that includes instruction, related services, community experiences, the development of employment and other post-school adult living objectives, and when appropriate, acquisition of daily living skills and functional vocational evaluation.
