PRESS RELEASE—Falcon Family Movie Night
Columbus Municipal School District hosted its first Falcon Family Movie Night on December 9, 2014 at 5:30 pm at the Malco Cinema on Hwy 45N in Columbus, MS. The featured presentation of “The Penguins of Madagascar” attracted a record-breaking 861 attendees. This mix of parents, students, administrators, teachers and district staff was designed to promote parent and child together time outside of the academic setting.
The $8.00 ticket price included popcorn and a drink which is a considerable savings for a family to enjoy the pleasures of an evening outing. Free CMSD t-shirts were provided while they lasted. Administrators, Principals, Teachers and the Superintendent rolled up their sleeves and passed out soft drinks and popcorn and guided participants to the reserved theatre for their school. An enjoyable time was had by all. Comments on Facebook and other social media outlets reflected the positive mood of this evening of fun and fellowship. A guest starring appearance by the “Columbus Falcon” mascot was a highlight as pictures were snapped and hands/wings were shaken.
The manager of the cinema Mr. Brad Hargett expressed their pleasure with the well-behaved children and organization that enhanced the event. They look forward to working with the District in the future.
Future Falcon Family Movie Nights are being planned for spring 2015.
