Assistant Teachers--Each
kindergarten and first grade has the services of an assistant teacher. The assistant teacher works under the direction of the classroom teacher
to provide help or enrichment on a daily basis for each student.

Computers--Each classroom
has four computer work stations that are part of the school's network.
These computers are connected to the internet. Instructional programs
for reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies can be accessed
from any computer in the building. The library will be soon automated
for checkout and for on-line card catalog.

Kindergarten Program--The
kindergarten classes meet all day on the same schedule as the upper grades.
The program is a developmentally sound program with an emphasis on
learning in activity centers. Prerequisite skills are practiced and
learned using these hands-on-experiences. Formal instruction is given through
the use of the McGraw Hill Kindergarten Reading Program. This program emphasises
reading skills based on phoenemic awareness and phonics based instruction.
This is the same series used in the upper grades enabling the students
to make a smooth transition from kindergarten to first grade.

S.P.I.R.I.T--The SPIRIT
program is for intellectually gifted students who score above the 90th percentile on the
Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children. These students in grades
2-4 leave the regular classroom for 5 hours each week to work with the
SPIRIT teacher in her classroom. Students are eligible for testing
after they have completed the first grade.

Physical Education, Music, Library, Counseling--All
Sale students have these classes in addition to their regular class. Third and fourth grade classes also have the services of an art teacher
every third week. Columbus is fortunate to be able to offer these programs
with specialists in each area to further the student's development.

Speech--Students are
provided the services of a certified speech pathologist. Students
who need therapy for articulation, language, hearing impairment, fluency,
and voice disorders are served according to individualized educational
plans.

Accelerated Reader--Sale
second, third, and fourth graders are the target grades for AR this school
year.
Special Education--Eligible
students K-4 are provided services in the Resource Room in areas of reading
comprehension, reading readiness, math computation, spelling and math reasoning.
