Project Falcon SOAAR (Students Optimizing Academics to Achieve Results) is an Afterschool STEM Academy designed to expose middle school children in grades 6-8 to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics using the research-based curriculum designed and developed by Project Lead the Way.
In collaboration with Mississippi State University’s Bagley College of Engineering, students participate in a variety of academic, cultural, character-building and leadership opportunities. These activities will prepare them for not only post-secondary education, but workforce opportunities which are increasing in the Golden Triangle area.
As we begin this second year of operation, students have completed a wonderful year which included two visits by well-known motivational speaker and author, Mr. Fonzworth Bentley, who allowed his book to be used to deliver character education modules which included, manners, style and etiquette taught by his mother, Mrs. Hariette Watkins, a life-long corporate trainer and executive.
Pictures attached to this slideshow reflect the wealth of opportunities available to Columbus Middle School students in grades 6-8. Please also click here to view WTVA’s coverage of our kick-off for Project Falcon SOAAR.
