Student Organizations

 

Vocational students participate in co-curricular leadership activities and vocational competition through membership in various student organizations. These include the following: Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Mississippi Technology Teens (MT2), National Future Farmers of America (FFA), Skills USA, and Future Light.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education. The organization has nearly 220,000 members and 8,000 advisers from all 50 states plus the District of Columbia , Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands . Since its founding in 1945, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America has involved more than nine million youth

National FFA

The National FFA Organization was organized as the "Future Farmers of America" in 1928 in Kansas City, Mo. In 1988, the official organization name was changed to The National FFA Organization to reflect the broadening field of agriculture, which today encompasses more than 300 careers in everything from agriscience to biotechnology to turf grass management.

FutureLight is a student organization designed for McKellar students who have been accepted into a 2nd year career and technical program. Students gain leadership skills, prepare for the work force, and assist in recruitment efforts. Members must have exemplary discipline and attendance records, a recommendation from his or her career and technical teacher, and maintain a 2.0 GPA. TVA and Columbus Light & Water sponsor FutureLight.

SkillsUSA is a student leadership organization tha t allows students to understand what it takes to be successful in the world of work. By building job skills and leadership skills, students will have a jump on the job market and employability skills that will set them apart. Each vocational class sends one student to compete in Bangor in March. It is an honor to be chosen to compete in itself.

H.O.S.A is a vocational leadership club that Health Occupations students belong to. Each year the students have the opportunity to attend the state leadership conference. The students compete in various medical related events. The students who place in this competition have the opportunity to compete in a National Leadership Conference that is held each year.

 

MT2 logo

The purpose of MT2, better known as Mississippi Technology Teens, is to promote enjoyment and understanding of technology among middle school, high school, community college, and university students.
