Automotive Service Technology introduces students to the ins and outs of automobile repair. Students use the latest technology to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair engines; complete front-end alignments; and carryout other automotive repairs. The lab-based activities increase mechanical skills and improve employability skills. Students learn safety basics, tool and equipment usage, measurement, basic engine service, and brake and electrical system service.

A second-year course is offered which includes a detailed study of engine construction and operation. Auxiliary engine systems such as the cooling system, fuel system, and lubrication system are also included. Lessons are closely followed by practical application. Students learn safety and safe procedures in a shop area. The braking system, steering system, transmission, driveline, differential system, and electrical system is covered. An independent project is mandatory. Students complete assignments on all systems as taught to increase their mechanical aptitude. The shop has the most recent technology available to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair automobiles; complete front-end alignments; and carryout other automotive repairs.

Students enrolled in Automotive Service have the option to participate in the Skills USA Student Organization. This organization provides leadership and competitive opportunities on the district, state, and national levels.  Click on the "Student Organizations" link for more information on   Skills USA.
