Medications For Students

District Officials understand the roles medications play in our day-to-day lives. At the same time, we have a responsibilty to protect our children and err on the side of caution. Therefore, the following guideleines are provided for students and parents and must be followed precisely.

1. Before any student can take a medication (including over-the -counter medications; such as Tylenol) at school, the parent/guardian and a licensed physician must complete a Medication Authorization Form. This form is available in the school office or at the district's central office.

2. Parent must provide all medication. The school does not furnish any medication.

3. Prescription medication must be brought to school by a parent in a pharmacy-labeled bottle that must be received in the original container. Medications will be stored in a secure area of the school.

4. Medication classified as controlled substances (Ritalin, Pain Medications, Etc.) must be brought to the school by a parent.

5. Except for asthma medication, parents should not give medications to students to bring to school.

6. Medications must be taken in the presence of the school nurse or designated staff members at school.
