CMSD has partnered with Columbus Light and Water, Tennessee Valley Authority and the Mississippi Coding Academy to start coding integration into all elementary magnet schools in the Columbus Municipal School District. The purpose of this program is to introduce students to basic coding skills while promoting instructional practices that have high engagement, application and an emphasis on the Mississippi College and Career Standards.
Coders from the Mississippi Coding Academy will be assigned to second grade classes in all five elementary schools in the Columbus Municipal School District. The lesson will be presented to students the week of November 26-30, 2018. Coders will have a follow up lesson in the spring with the same students and will leave resources, concepts and vocabulary information for teachers. Sphero and Finch robots are being used thanks to the donation from TVA and Columbus Light and Water.
We are grateful to our partners TVA, Columbus Light and Water and the Mississippi Coding Academy, namely Dr. Bluitt for giving us this opportunity.
