What is air force junior rotc?
Air Force Junior ROTC is a citizenship
program for high school students in the
ninth through twelfth grades. Students receive elective credit for each of the four
AFJROTC courses. Successful completion will also fulfill half of the district's Physical
Education requirement, and Health requirement. AFJROTC encourages its students to
get involved in community service to produce well-informed and helpful citizens. Each
year's Aerospace Science course work relates to a different theme, examples are:
Journey into Aviation History, Introduction to Global Awareness, and Global and
Cultural Studies. The Leadership Education course work includes: Citizenship,
Character and Air Force Tradition, Communication, Awareness and Leadership, Life
Skills and Career Opportunities, and Principles of Management. To enhance classroom
learning, Students participate in extracurricular and social activities such as
Curriculum-In-Action trips, drill teams, honor guards, model rocketry, and other
military functions. Students and parents must agree that the student will participate in
a physical training program that is conducted at least once a week in all four courses.
The physical training program is no more strenuous than the school's physical education
program. Also, students are expected to wear the Air Force uniform, which is provided
at no cost, at least once a week. Student's wear of the Air Force uniform must conform to
Air Force standards to include grooming standards. Students must meet and maintain
acceptable standards of academic achievement, personal conduct and appearance as
prescribed by the Air Force to enroll and remain in AFJROTC.
